Corpus Christi is the closest major city to North Padre Island. Only ten minutes away from the south side of the city and twenty minutes from downtown, the Island has close proximity to all the conveniences a metropolitan city brings. Also known as the sparkling city by the sea, Corpus borders on Corpus Christi bay to the east and has a downtown area adjacent to the bayfront as well as a scenic road that follows the shoreline all the way to A & M Corpus Christi and the Naval Air Station at the south eastern end of the bay.

As the eighth largest city in Texas, Corpus Christi has many of the facilities and amenities a major city provides. With two large malls, several strip malls and numerous shopping and dining establishments, North Padre visitors and residents are always just minutes away from shopping and recreational options not available on the island. There are also several hotels located in Corpus that some visitors prefer to stay at when in the area and still are only ten to twenty minutes from North Padre Island.

Corpus Christi has many sights and fun things to do while in the city. Downtown offers the Art Center of Corpus Christi and Whataburger baseball field, where the home team Hooks play games during the spring and summer. Also downtown are the water gardens, museum of science and history, as well as a marina and t-head where a replica of the Columbus ships is docked and restaurants, boat ramps and bait stands are available. Just across the Harbor Bridge is Corpus Christi beach as well as the Texas state Aquarium and the USS Lexington floating museum.

There are many things to see and do while in Corpus Christi and North Padre Island!
